This is Issue 01 of Clarity Beats Noise, my monthly email, from July 2026. One idea a month, nothing else. Get the next one in your inbox.
Most small businesses think they have a marketing problem. Spend more, post more, shout louder.
They usually don’t. They have a clarity problem.
Once a month, one idea worth your time. No round-ups, no top ten lists, no filler. Just one thing you can actually do this week.
I have spent 25 years working on brands. Some big names, plenty of small ones. The same rule turns up every time, whatever the size of the business, so that is where we will always start.
The Signal
The market does not reward the loudest business. It rewards the one people understand the quickest. When someone can say what you do, who it is for, and why you are worth choosing, all in one breath, they pick you. When they can’t, no amount of spend fixes it. It just makes the confusion cost more.
Big brands know this. adidas does not win by outspending everyone. It wins by being clear, and guarding that clarity like it matters, because it does. The budget only works because the message underneath it is sharp.
Here is the good news for the rest of us. Clarity costs nothing to test. Which is exactly what this month’s job is.
The 10-minute fix
Say out loud the one sentence a customer would use to describe you to a mate. Write it down. Then message three actual customers and ask them to describe you in a line, no prompting. Put your sentence next to their three.
If they don’t match, you have found the gap. Closing it is the cheapest, most useful job you will do all month.
The teardown
Every issue I take one business’s line and sharpen it, out in the open. Here is a common one. The local accountant whose website promises this:
“proactive, professional accountancy for businesses and individuals.”
That is true of every accountant going, so it tells you nothing. Sharper:
“An accountant who actually knows your numbers, and you.”
Same firm, same work. One is wallpaper. One sticks.

Cut the noise
That is this month. One idea, made simple.
If it was useful, pass it to someone who needs it. If you want the next issue as soon as it is out, subscribe here. It goes out on the second Tuesday of every month.
